PENITENCE
1
SINCE foolishness and sin
In my found origin
In all my lifetime, none
Through me to pleasure won.
I look for equity,
Which none obtains from me;
Against the world I cry,
The world's complaint am I.
2
Alas, alas! from em
Springs all inequity;
Ah woe! a thousand sighs
Through my injustice rise.
'For what thy hands have wrought:'
So have the Scriptures taught;
Then is my soul forlorn
Whereof all grief was born.
~The Rubaiyat of Jalal Al-Din Rumi

Help

I mean to learn from this verse something about myself.
what are you thinking, my friend, about all this?
I am thinking that there's something about energy that attracts -and- repels, both in time. I'm feeling my way still. Thanks for your companionship, Nicole.
Ahhh…Life. Ahhh….learning all the time, we are. Blessings, Paul.
unless?
Do you think there's distinct parts of ourselves that care awfully what other people think of us…and other parts that don't give a damn? I find both parts in myself. There's a small timid little girl child who's still petrified of offending anyone, saying the wrong thing, doing the wrong thing, being stupid, saying anything. She wants everyone to like her. Then there's this part that doesn't give two hoots what anyone thinks and just expresses herself and that's that.
The second courageous part has really been developing and coming into her own the last couple of years especially but every once in a while the other one comes crying up to the forefront and needs love and a hug too.
Oh, and that's only talking about two parts of ourselves… I guess the key, if there's a key, is whether we're aware of all parts and if one needs to come forth more than the others…
Nicole, I'll answer the unless query privately later today. Maybe here later.
Kathy, according to Tolle, there is only singularity and our minds create division through thought. As you point to, awareness creates presence, not separation. Perhaps that little girl gets her hug at the same time as she expands her expression to include the indifferent part. And, as we all know, it's impossible to get a hug without giving one. :-)
Ahh, thanks sooooo much, Kathy.
Learning is my life long passion. Some lessons are harder to learn than others. I'm fond of the phrase ”What other people think of me is none of my business.“ Unless…
(note: I am reposting this comment from earlier so it makes sense and to respect a former friend's wishes around comments)
What I shared privately with Nicole, perhaps my best friend here on Gaia.com, weeks ago went like this…
Me: I'm fond of the phrase ”What other people think of me is none of my business.“ Unless…
Nicole: Unless?
Me (now publicly): Unless the other people have power over you…
am i your best friend on Gaia? aw, thanks! hugs, paul.
